PreK
It’s never too early to teach technology! Young PreK students are drawn to Education City’s clear, exciting graphics which are rooted in fun and familiar environments. Kids are more savvy today than they’ve ever been before and preschoolers love working on the computer. Education City PreK activities help the youngest generation connect new language skills with their everyday lives.
Kindergarten
Education City’s Letters and Sounds area eases early elementary students into reading. The Letter and Sounds area uses phonics to apply the latest thinking about how kids learn to read, encouraging them to get their little noses into books from the earliest possible stage!
Elementary
Elementary Language Arts activities concentrate on reading, writing, speaking and listening. Education City reading activities build a solid foundation in the mechanics of reading by enhancing vocabulary, making sense of new words and increasing confidence and interest in new genres. Elementary students work with short stories, novels, poetry and even comics to develop literary appreciation and analysis.
Remember practicing perfect penmanship? Sound spelling, grammar and punctuation are a few of the must-have basics when it comes to effective written communication. But, Education City takes it a step further to include creative writing techniques designed to promote personal flair and encourage articulate self-expression.
Speech class was never this fun! Education City’s speaking activities work to encourage correct grammar and speech conventions in a fun and engaging way. Young students will gain confidence in their use of speech and learn how to adapt their style in different situations and environments by keeping their audience at the forefront of their mind and making conscious choices in the language, tone and expression they use.
Don’t underestimate the power of listening. Learning how to become an effective listener is a crucial skill that will continue to develop throughout life. Education City’s listening activities focus on identifying key information, spotting supporting details, maintaining concentration and demonstrating an understanding of what was said.
Our listening activities provide practical strategies for becoming an effective listener – a vital skill in both academic and personal settings. Young listeners learn how to identify key information, spot supporting details, maintain concentration and show understanding of what they’ve heard.
From age 4 and up, Education City's language arts modules enable students to make sense of the English language in all forms. With the help of our teaching and learning resources, students become effective communicators who use the spoken and written word for both personal enjoyment and academic success. Supplementing with Additional Resources with each Education City activity, teachers have access to the Teacher Zone. The Teacher Zone contains a range of supporting materials such as worksheets, teacher notes and guides including suggested Topic Tools activities ideal for smartboard use.
