Welcome to the October edition of The City Today!

Bringing you all the latest from Education City!

The ComputED Gazette announced winners of the 15th Annual Education Software Review Awards (EDDIES) – and Education City is pleased to announce a repeat win for Multi-Subject Website of the Year in both the Early Learning and Early Elementary categories.

The EDDIES awards target innovative and content-rich programs and websites that augment the classroom curriculum and improve teacher productivity, providing parents and teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence. The EDDIES review praised Education City for its engaging animation, robust content and functional versatility: “How often have we heard, ‘kids learn best when they’re having fun.’ Education City is a subscription-based website that provides countless fun-filled learning activities for children from pre-kindergarten through 6th grade, and is adaptable to special needs children and home schooling.”
The review recognized the amount of activity options launching interactive lessons focusing on whole language and phonics to boost reading skills as well as immediate feedback and reinforcement based on a correct or incorrect response. Furthermore, the review called the friendly adult voiceover “the most important design feature, guiding the child throughout – even with lesson activity buttons identified for the nonreader!”
“These EDDIES Awards mean a lot to Education City,” said Matthew Kwak, President. “We work hard to provide students with appealing and entertaining educational content while at the same time providing educators with a hearty resource that meets their needs and classroom objectives. It’s nice to be recognized for just that, by the experts.”
Monday, October 25 is Release Day!
On Monday we debut our brand new ELL module – Learn English! This highly anticipated module will be available to all subscribers at no charge for the first three weeks post-release!
Learn English has been designed with language development and curriculum content aimed for students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. However, during our 6-month pilot program we discovered that students in many more grades are using Learn English with great success. For that reason, the first six months the module is available, we’re making it accessible from the Education City home page.

Spotlight on Learn English! For the past 6 months, 50+ schools have been piloting our new Learn English (ELL) module. Read on to see what they had to say...
“I love this program! I used Learn English with my limited English learners and English students to see what would happen---it was AMAZING!  They learned so much and the English students not only learned new things but refreshed their memories from years past. My students love all the games. I haven’t had one bad review.”
-Shannon Johnson, Technology Coordinator, Nettie Marshall Elementary
“My kids absolutely loved Education City Learn English. Even though we got it late in the year last school year, when most of my students had learned a lot of English already, this was the only thing they did on Education City after we introduced it! Learn English has great vocabulary building games and it really engages the students. So, basically, all my students (English and Spanish speaking) love Learn English!”
-Ashley Cleare, Kindergarten Teacher, Meadow Creek Elementary, Georgia
