SPECIAL FEATURE - CAN STUDENTS WORK FROM HOME?
Is online learning the solution to inclement weather days?
There's no question that the concept of telecommuting is increasingly popular these days. In fact, according to the Telework Research Network, an estimated 20 to 30 million US employees currently work from home at least one day a week. The question is: Can this same telecommuting concept be applied to students?
One district seems to think so. Mississinawa Valley School District in Ohio is moving forward with plans to implement an online education program that allows instruction to continue during days schools would be closed due to inclement weather. The idea would allow students to login to the district's website from home and complete their lessons assigned to them by their teacher.
The Ohio Department of Education approved the district's pilot for the 2010-2011 school year with the intentions of evaluating the program before making plans to expand it statewide.
We want to know what you think. Would a program like this work in your district? Is this an innovative solution to avoiding extension of the school year due to inclement weather days? Post your opinion on our Forum or find us on Facebook!

We LOVE hearing what you have to say!
"Education City is the BEST program that I have ever come across for students in the PreK-5th grade level. It provides activities at every level covering the core curriculum in a way that is fun to learn. There are so many aspects that I admire about the program, primarily the one in which the ELL program benefits not only our ESL students that are in 3rd-5th grade, but even our PreK and Kinder students. Thank you for providing such an amazing journey of learning for our kids!"
