I've created my buddy, but can't get beyond the Play/Help pop-up. My pop-ups aren't blocked.

The Common World, which contains all the games, will have opened in a separate tab.

Make sure that you check all your tabs. This you can do by looking along the 4th row of horizontal information onscreen, in line with your Tools tab, and also by looking at the files open along the base of your page.
