PRIVACY POLICY FOR STIGANDSTEN.COM
INTRODUCTION
Protecting your privacy is important to us at EducationCity, Inc. (“EducationCity”), and as owners of StigandSten.com (the “Site”), we are committed to safeguarding the information you give to us. The following privacy policy ("Privacy Policy") will help you understand how we collect, use, store and safeguard the personal information you provide to us on the Site. We strive to ensure that our Privacy Policy complies with the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which governs the online use and collection of information from children under 13, and all other applicable legislation.
We are committed to making your use of the Site easy, safe, and as enjoyable as possible. Please take a moment to read this Privacy Policy to determine how your personal information will be treated as you make full use of our Site. By using the Site or providing the information requested by the Site, you agree to accept the terms of this Privacy Policy and our use of the information we collect. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Site.
EducationCity reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time and at its sole discretion. As required by law, we will not use personally identifiable information in ways that are materially different from those described in this Privacy Policy without obtaining consent to the different uses. Should we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by marking it with a new effective date, by email, or by adding a notice to the Site homepage. Your use of the Site following any such modification constitutes your agreement to be bound by this Privacy Policy as modified.
I. What personally identifiable information does EducationCity collect from me and how is my information collected?
When users, including children under 13, create a buddy on StigandSten.com, we ask them to select a name for their buddy and a password, to choose a product appropriate for their age, and to provide an email address for their parent or legal guardian (“Parent”). We use this information to create an account to save the user’s buddy, and to send the Parent an account activation email seeking consent for the child’s registration on the Site. The account activation email will give the Parent the choice of whether or not to consent to our collection and internal use of the child’s information. The consent given does not allow us to disclose the child’s information to third parties.
If the Parent does not provide consent, we will delete the information provided at registration within a reasonable period of time. If consent to registration is given, the Parent’s email address may be used to notify the Parent about any change to our privacy practices, to send the Parent communications about the user’s account, to send value-added communications (such as our member magazine or notifications of contest wins), and to provide additional information about our products and services.
Once we receive parental consent to complete the registration of a child’s account via the account activation email, the account will be activated, and the child may participate in certain limited Site activities.Users must enter the proper buddy name and password to log into the account prior to participating in these activities. We do not condition a child’s participation in any online activity on the child providing more personal data than is reasonably necessary for that activity.
When a registered user of the Site acquires a paid membership, we collect additional personally identifiable information from the user’s Parent. The personally identifiable information requested at this time may include the child’s name, sex and date of birth, as well as credit/debit card billing information, including a mailing address. If this information is not provided to us, then we may not agree to paid membership and may not be able to provide access to certain content and functionality on the Site. When you renew your membership, this personally identifiable information may be requested again.
We also request a contact name and an email address when any user submits a form through the Site’s Contact Us area within the Site’s Help page so that we may respond to the inquiry. In this instance, we collect the user’s email address for the sole purpose of responding directly on a one-time basis to the specific inquiry.
Users will also be able to participate in blogs. Before creating a buddy, users can only participate in blogs anonymously. Users that have selected a buddy will be able to participate in blogs using their buddy for only a limited time (e.g. 6 months), unless the account is fully activated by a Parent. While we take measures, including the provision of Blog Rules and live moderation, to discourage users from communicating personally identifiable information, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you post might be read, collected and used by others. We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit to the blogs.
II. How is my personally identifiable information used?
As a member of the Site, we will send transactional emails for various reasons as you continue to use our Site. For example, a welcome email will be sent thanking you for joining, and further emails may be sent telling you about exciting upgrades to the Site. These emails are required for logistical purposes and users cannot opt-out of these at any time.
