Math
Education City's math module offers activities all mapped to your state's standards. In every activity, content is made as clear to understand as possible, with visual and audible reinforcements for every answer. It is the combination of large text, clear voice-over, colorful graphics, and fun music that makes Education City's math content appeal to all learners.
When a student answers a question incorrectly, not only is the correct answer shown, but an explanation as to how the answer is worked out is also often provided. Many topics in math can be perceived as quite abstract but Education City activities make those topics concrete, through use of appropriate contexts and powerful reinforcements.
To supplement each activity is a Teacher Zone, containing a range of support materials such as worksheets and ‘Teacher Notes’. Worksheets provide the teacher with an excellent follow-up activity for students to demonstrate what they have learned in the main activity.
Finding this content is very easy and is achievable in two distinct ways. Firstly, activities can be found based on the objective that they are mapped to, by following the ‘Standards Map’ right from the homepage. Alternatively, activities can be found based on a system of keywords within each year group. By selecting a keyword from within ‘Topic Search’, all activities which are not relevant will be filtered out. At this stage, a new button then appears called ‘Change Level’, which leads to other activities covering that same topic but at different academic levels. This makes providing differentiated work for groups of students of differing abilities very easy.
Alongside the fun filled activities are our ‘Topic Tools’. Specifically designed for use on interactive whiteboards, the tools offer teachers the freedom to explore a topic at a level and pace perfectly suited to their students. ‘Topic Tools’ are also intrinsically linked with the activities, meaning that they are also mapped to appropriate learning objectives. As with the activities, the tools make what could be perceived as complex or even boring topics interesting and stimulating. Guides containing suggested activities involving the tools can also be found within Teacher Zone.
