City Today - March 2010
Welcome to the March 2010 edition of The City Today, bringing you all the latest from EducationCity.com!
School Spotlight
We’re thrilled to bring you another success story straight from our schools! Students at Maple Shade Township School District in Maple Shade, New Jersey have been using EducationCity.com to boost student achievement since last November. Already, we’ve seen 6,000 logins from students!

According to Assistant Superintendent Joe Langowski, students are encouraged to use EducationCity.com 20 minutes each day, three days a week after school. Teachers provide in-class quizzes and send assignments to students for at-home completion.
Langowski attributes the short-term success of EducationCity.com to elementary student appeal that reinforces skills students are used to working with in electronic media. “I think parents spend a lot of time searching for educational tools for their children, and we felt by putting one great product in their hands with a feature of safety, we can look at what students are doing and use it as an assessment and remediation tool.” The district’s Director of Technology Steve Cappello agrees, “It’s really a great tool for parents to help them to be able to support their children in school.”
Parents and teachers alike are fans of EducationCity.com. Donna Krier, whose daughter Lisa is in the second grade at Howard R. Yocum Elementary School, is excited about the site. The Maple Shade resident said EducationCity.com is user-friendly and has a variety of educational topics that hold her daughter’s interest. “I think it’s great because it doesn’t seem like they are doing extra homework for school. It has a lot of games, which kids really love,” Krier said.
But what does our most important audience think of EducationCity.com? Lisa, 7, logs on to EducationCity.com almost every night while her mother makes dinner for her family. She enjoys playing the games and wants to share EducationCity.com with her friends. “If a friend came over and she didn’t know about it, I would tell her about EducationCity – because I want more people to know about it, because it’s really fun,” Lisa said.
